Conversations with an exorcist

“Many demons can only be dispelled by much fast and penance, the greatest source being prayer.” - Jesus, December 31, 1973

“They will use the body of a human being, one who has fallen out of grace and the light. Any man, woman, or child is susceptible to this possession.” - Our Lady of the Roses, August 21, 1975

The following notes are from conversations with an American priest exorcist, who shared some of his experiences with us:

The Bible records Jesus' exorcism of the mute spirit in Mark 9: 16-28, and shows that some demons are only cast out by fasting and prayer.

Father recommended the movie, The Exorcism of Emily Rose which is based on the true story of Anneliese Michel. He said it is pretty close to the truth, worth seeing. It is very difficult to get help for these people (the possessed) in the United States, because so many priests and bishops do not believe in this.

Various possession cases and observations

In one exorcism, the possessed was speaking five different languages. A Filipino nun helping him recognized the possessed speaking her language. After this successful exorcism, more than 300 confessions were heard.

A skinny 15-year old boy he exorcised was possessed by Judas.

Paralyzing "sex-dreams" are common in the possessed.

A young girl he exorcised was into Harry Potter and Pokemon. He has exorcised many children who have become possessed through involvement in these. A priest told him that he read Harry Potter and found nothing wrong with it. The exorcist rebuked this ignorant priest, "But you guys don't do exorcisms!"

Father said that you pay the price, helping the possessed. You become a victim with the victim. But he said being an exorcist has opened up a deep spiritual world. He wouldn't change anything, he doesn't regret being an exorcist at all.

For those poor children who have been abandoned by their parents, he said it is like throwing tuna to sharks, to abandon a child.

During the exorcism of a 4-year-old boy from Chile, it was revealed that his mom has been burned on her sternum by satan, in a similar manner as described in the book, Michelle Remembers.

Women who have become possessed by demons of fornication, Father called them "barracuda women". Some of these possessed women have tried to seduce him during the exorcism and have bit, scratched and kicked him. They are "totally sexed" in their behavior, and some have even had a diabolical ability to "flesh out" and change their physical appearance.

One time Father visited a mental hospital, and was not dressed in clericals at the time. One of the patients told him in Latin, "you are a priest". [Note: Bishop Fulton Sheen had an similar experience indicating that some of the insane were also possessed. When he brought the Blessed Sacrament in a pyx into a mental hospital, several patients began stripping off their clothes as he went by them with the hidden pyx].

One woman became possessed by not forgiving her husband. Father prayed only two lines from the exorcism ritual, and this possessed woman vomited up a mass similar in size to a bloody golf ball.

In another case, during an exorcism the demon told Father, "It took seven years for me to get into this person. Do you think I'm leaving in one hour?"

If a person commits fornication, even a little, it doesn't matter: the demons are there.

Father mentioned that demons accompany the possessed wherever they go, much like the dust cloud always accompanied Pigpen in the comic strip, Peanuts.

During exorcisms, the demons mock him all the time. In one case, Father replied to the mockery, "This laughter is going to turn to tears," and the demons were soon begging not to be cast out when they were cornered by the exorcism. I was surprised at how calm he was when threatened by the demons. I told him, "You're not afraid, are you, Father?" He replied, "Nah." He has faith in Our Lord, and His power.

In one exorcism, Father was scratched by a possessed boy because the mother failed to hold him down. Father said to the mother, "I told you before to have someone hold him down." The boy pleaded during the exorcism, "Mommy, I want to go home!" as a plea to get out of there, to avoid the exorcism. Father told the mother, "Don't listen to him." The exorcism was successful and the boy who when possessed scratched Father, after he was delivered now gave Father a hug.

A prison chaplain once told Father that he couldn't get the prisoners to kneel for the consecration at Mass. Father prayed over them, and after that the prisoners knelt for the consecration.

When the possessed individual is praying and trying to do what they can (cooperating with the exorcist and making a firm purpose to amend their life), half the battle is won. They are over the hump, so to speak. But sometimes the possessed have to hit rock bottom before they are willing to seek help.

Father said that he gets more results for the possessed in one day from exorcism, than psychiatrists can over years. He has found psychiatrists to be some of the most ignorant people. If someone automatically excludes the spirit in determining what is wrong with a person they are wrong, Father explained, because we are a body-soul unity.

To be an exorcist, you have to be a fighter.

Demons come in droves, in great numbers, when a person becomes possessed. In his experience, the average possessed adult comes with thousands of demons, the average possessed child comes with hundreds.

He said that in several cases he was working on, the demons indicated they would depart on Good Friday. Even though the demons frequently lie, they usually tell the truth about their departure date from the possessed.

In some cases, it takes years for the possessed to be delivered.

Some doorways to possession: Incest, abortion, fornication, abuse of children

Incest is nearly always a guarantee of possession. It is always accompanied by an evil spirit.

In one case a woman had been involved in drugs and prostitution. When he asked the demons in Latin what caused them to enter, the demons replied, "abortion" and gave the exact date of entrance into the woman. [Note: Fr. Gabriele Amorth, an exorcist in Italy, wrote that he has performed exorcisms on women who became possessed through the sin of abortion. Fr. Amorth writes, "The heinous crime of abortion aggravates this situation; its terrible repercussions are clearly seen during exorcisms, because to liberate a victim who is guilty of abortion usually requires a very long period of time." - An Exorcist: More Stories, Ignatius Press, p. 63]

He exorcised a Nigerian priest of 5,000 demons. During this exorcism the evil spirit said, "I am the great one." This possessed Nigerian priest had been fooling around with women and had broken his vow of chastity.

He has exorcised a priest who was a pedophile. He believes that all priests who sexually abuse children are possessed. He said it is obvious from their reaction during the exorcism that they are possessed.

Why God permits possession

Father mentioned that God permits possession in His plan. He said the answer to why God permits possession is the same as Jesus gave to His disciples for the man born blind:

"And Jesus passing by, saw a man, who was blind from his birth: And his disciples asked him: Rabbi, who hath sinned, this man, or his parents, that he should be born blind? Jesus answered: Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents; but that the works of God should be made manifest in him." (St. John 9: 1-3)

The ultimate reason that God allows possession is that God may be glorified.

Extending mercy to those in need

Father mentioned the story of St. Martin of Torres, who would give the homeless a place to stay at his monastery. His superior told him not to do this, but St. Martin continued. His superior was upset and told him he was ordered not to bring in the homeless. St. Martin replied to his superior: "What about mercy?"

Father said he has never seen anyone hurt by an exorcism. He finds his work of helping the possessed very satisfying.

Recommendations

He recommended reading The Exorcism of Anneliese Michel by Felicitas D. Goodman and Possessed, by Thomas B. Allen.

For those trying to help the possessed, he recommended prayer, that God would give signs for guidance, and for discernment of spirits. He recommended fasting along with prayer, because fasting gives more power over the demons.

Many priests in the United States are trying not to rock the boat

He mentioned that in the United States priests are often not allowed to speak their mind, or else they will be sent off to Timbuktu. Lots of good clergy have been picked off in this way. So many priests are trying not to rock the boat.

The power of exorcism

What demons fear most is exorcism. If the sacraments were sufficient in themselves, we wouldn't need exorcisms. But in God's providence, He has supplied exorcism to fulfill a great need. Father mentioned a possessed man who received Communion, and after Mass said the St. Michael exorcism over him in Latin. When Father talked to this man later and asked when the demon left him, he said it wasn't during Mass but when he said that "funny prayer at the end" (the Latin St. Michael prayer) that the demon left him.

Possession is not rare

A priest once told him, "You know, possession is very rare." Father replied, "No it isn't!"

PRAYER AND FASTING
"Yes, My child, you see that I am the true Source of Life. For when you come to Me, you will nourish your soul. You will nourish your eternal being. You will learn, My child, in due time that the Bread of life will sustain you without earthly food. Man must return to fast and penance. Many demons can only be dispelled by much fast and penance, the greatest source being prayer.
"You must keep a constant vigilance of prayer in your homes and the houses of your God. You must also recognize the faces of evil about you: those who parade themselves as angels of light but are truly ravenous wolves, agents of hell. They seek the destruction of souls." - Jesus, December 31, 1973

CRUCIFIX
"Remember, keep your sacramentals constantly upon you: your brown Scapular, your St. Benedict medal, the Miraculous Medal, and also the medal of Our Lady of the Roses.
"You must keep them upon you, with a crucifix. We demand a crucifix, because demons--many of the highest ones in the realms of hell cannot stand the sight of a crucifix. They will not approach your door. I give you this knowledge, My children, though it is not common knowledge upon earth, that the crucifix has great power against satan." - Jesus, June 18, 1987

CREATURES OF NIGHT
"I give you the greatest of hope in your world of darkness that the victory shall be with Heaven. Know that the greatest trials suffered are but a small forfeiture for the great glory of being victorious over the adversaries loosed upon your earth. They come as creatures of night, but they must possess the bodies of humans. "Unless the parents teach their children of the existence of this other world unseen to the human eye, the children cannot then be protected from the attacks of these agents from hell. "My child, you will work with much haste. The time grows short. The enemy has entered into your government. Pray much for them. The demons possess many. They come in great multitudes, for they know the strength of prayer in your area. Should this be removed, your city, your state, and your country will go through a period of great suffering never seen before in this country." - Jesus, September 13, 1974

WILL OF SATAN
"There are many agents of hell loosed upon earth now. They have entered into the House of God, and they possess the body of many men to do the will of satan. You must not abandon the sacramentals that I have given you through the Father for your protection and your salvation." - Our Lady, August 14, 1973

Be knowledgeable, My children, and understand that satan will not come to you as himself. He possesses the body of any unclean soul, be it man, woman, or child. I repeat to you now: all parents will be held responsible for the fall of their children's souls. MUST BE RETURNED
"Michael must be returned to My Son's House. The demons must be cast from My Son's House. They have taken possession of many to do the will of Lucifer." - Our Lady, February 10, 1973

"I repeat Myself, as in the past, My children. The demons have a form, but they do not use this form unless the Eternal Father gives you the knowledge and insight into the supernatural to observe them in action. They will use the body of a human being, one who has fallen out of grace and the light. Any man, woman, or child is susceptible to this possession." - Our Lady, August 21, 1975

NOT BEYOND POSSESSION
"My heart is torn now at the full acceleration of the evil in your country, your cities, and your world. My Mother made it quite clear to you that mankind is not beyond possession by satan. The human body and the human souls now are being corrupted by evil man through the influence of satan, My children. You must learn to avoid the faces of evil that come to you. You must do all in your human power with the graces that will be given to you freely to cast off the inclination to evil." - Jesus, August 5, 1977

"He has an army of ogres wandering now throughout your country and all of the countries of the world. They are in possession of great power, so wear your sacramentals and protect your children and your households. Learn the use every day of holy water throughout your household. Insist, even with obstructions, insist that your children always wear a sacramental. One day they will understand that they will repel the demons." - Our Lady, September 13, 1977

KING OF DARKNESS
"My children of God, have no fear. You will keep your sacramentals about you. You will keep your children's souls guarded, for none shall be attacked who are in the state of grace.
"Be ye known now, it has been loosed on earth—satan; satan, the king of darkness, satan, the master of deceit. His time is short, but he is loose.
"He entered into the body of a man in 1975, a man who gave himself to him in the practice of occult. He entered into the body of this man, as he cannot roam without the body. He will enter in, when he has finished his mission, into another body. And you will pray a constant vigilance of prayer that he is removed from your country." - St. Michael, August 13, 1977

MURDERER, LIAR
"Satan was a murderer and a liar from the beginning, and satan has been allowed upon your earth to separate the sheep from the goats. My children, he is the master of deceit. I must tell you as your Mother, that unless you remain in the state of grace, you cannot recognize him. He is a man of a thousand faces. He has great power: he can throw his voice, My children, into animals and even into the air. Unless you give your children a firm foundation in knowledge of their Faith, they will fall to his subtleties, My children." - Our Lady, September 7, 1977

LOOSED ON EARTH
"Satan is loosed upon earth, but he knows that his time is growing short. Therefore, he will make a concerted effort to destroy those who are not in the state of grace, so that he can take them into hell. That is why, My children, you must always wear a medal, your armor about your neck. And the best armor of all is the Scapular, the Rosary, the St. Benedict medal, and also your newest armor: Our Lady of the Roses, Mary Help of Mothers. My child and My children, I tell you this because you cannot do without any of them. At this time, all armor is needed for the fight ahead." - Our Lady, May 17, 1986

CONSORT OF SATAN
